This week’s altercation involving a Springfield alderman is just one of a number of recent incidents of alleged political intimidation surrounding this year’s race for mayor.

Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory says the incident with a union member stems from Gregory’s support of Mayor Jim Langfelder, while many unions are backing challenger Misty Buscher.

Langfelder says other supporters of his have also endured threats or harassment, including Ward 3 Alderman Roy Williams, Jr. and city community relations director Juan Huerta.

But Buscher says the tactics go both ways, noting that she discovered one of her tires slashed in January as she was scheduled to head out for a campaign news conference.
