State Senator Doris Turner proposes legislation to update state flag

Illinois could wind up with a new state flag under legislation proposed by state Senator Doris Turner of Springfield.
The state’s current flag has been in use since 1915, with just one minor modification over the past century – adding the word “Illinois” to it in 1969.
Turner says it may be time to think about updating and modernizing the design.
She’s proposing the creation of a State Flag Commission that would seek public input on a new flag design and make a recommendation to the General Assembly by September 1.
