Efoil ban on Lake Springfield lifted for now

An ordinance banning the use of motorized foilboards – an inventive variety of surfboard – on Lake Springfield is on hold for the moment but could come back later this month.
Supporters of the ordinance have raised concerns that the devices, also known as “efoils,” would be too hard to see and hear on the lake – putting them at risk from other watercraft.

Alderman Chuck Redpath requested that the ordinance be held in committee Tuesday night.
But Redpath says he’s working on a broader ordinance addressing a variety of safety issues on the lake, and expects the proposed ban to be rolled into that proposal.
It’s expected to go back before the City Council by late February.
