A candidate for Springfield mayor has some big plans for the beach house at Lake Springfield. City Treasurer Misty Buscher says she would like to turn the area around the beach house into a summertime gathering spot, with picnic tables, a playground, an area for bocce ball, and a small stage that could feature acoustic music and other performances.
Buscher commissioned some drawings, paid for out of her own pocket, to get an idea of what the space could look like.
She would not reopen the Lake Springfield beach for swimming – but says some of that space could possibly be used for beach volleyball.
The lake beach has been closed since 2009 following a drowning there.
The beach house is available for rental, but Buscher thinks her plan will increase the usage of the facility and surrounding grounds.
