Opposing guns-rights activists clash over Illinois assault rifle ban

Two gun rights supporters are clashing over litigation aimed at overturning Illinois’s assault weapons ban. Attorney Thomas DeVore, who has filed two suits seeking to have the ban declared unconstitutional, is now seeking to intervene in a separate suit brought by Republican state Representative Dan Caulkins of Decatur.

DeVore contends that Caulkins recruited people in Macon and neighboring counties to join the suit and make donations to a legal defense fund… money which he says was actually deposited into Caulkins’s campaign fund.

Additionally, DeVore says that, instead of being named plaintiffs, the people who joined Caulkins’s case were lumped into a newly-formed group called “Law-Abiding Gun Owners of Macon County.”

DeVore is asking to represent at least six people who had originally agreed to join Caulkins’s case.
