DSI To Play Role In Determining Future Of Downtown Metered Parking

Downtown Springfield businesses may have a big say in whether the city returns to paid metered parking in 2023.

It’s been free to park at downtown meters since the start of the pandemic. Mayor Jim Langfelder says he will consult with Downtown Springfield, Inc., before making a final decision on whether to resume paid parking, along with new “smart” meters that could work with a debit card or an app.

DSI says it hasn’t taken a position on the issue yet, but says it generally stands with technology and “fair fees.” DSI expects talks with the city to get underway during the city budget process in January.
