More City Races Take Shape On Last Day Of Filing

The stage is set for the spring municipal election in Springfield.

Two more candidates filed for the open city treasurer’s post… city budget director Bill McCarty and Springfield Park Board member Lisa Badger filed their petitions ahead of Monday’s deadline and will face current deputy treasurer Colleen Redpath Feger. The treasurer’s office is open because incumbent Misty Buscher filed last week to run against Mayor Jim Langfelder, who is seeking a third term. In the only other citywide race, clerk Frank Lesko will run un-opposed.

A number of Springfield wards will have contested races in next year’s elections. More of those races began taking shape on Monday, the last day to file petitions to run in city races next year. Former Sangamon County Board member Jason Ratts has filed for the open seat in Ward 4. Another Ward 4 resident, David Yankee, also filed Monday, setting up a three-way race with Larry Rockford, who submitted petitions last week. It’s also be a three-way race in Ward 5. Incumbent Lakeisha Purchase is not only facing a challenge from Calvin Pitts, but now former alderman Sam Cahnman (CAN-mun)… who was just elected to the county board… has also filed to run for his old Ward 5 seat. More candidates have filed in other wards, too… with Daniel Pittman joining Alyssa Haaker  (HOCK-er) and Jennifer Notoriano in the open Ward 6 race, and John Houlihan filing in Ward 7, where Brad Carlson and Jaleesa Davis are also running.
