IHSA Adds More E-Sports For 2023

The world of e-sports in Illinois high schools continues to grow.

The IHSA has approved the addition of two new video games, and a modified version of a third, for officially sanctioned competition next year. Starting in 2023, students will be able to compete in Mario Kart 8 and FIFA Soccer, as well as the “crew battle” version of Super Smash Brothers. They join three other sanctioned e-sports… Rocket League, NBA2K, and Super Smash Brothers as an individual competition.

The IHSA says so far around 125 Illinois high schools compete in e-sports, and that number could grow to 160 or more next year.
