Springfield Not Involved In Migrant Relief Effort For Now

Springfield apparently won’t be playing a role anytime soon in helping the state deal with the flow of migrants who are being bussed to Illinois from Texas and elsewhere.

Several thousand migrants have already been bussed to the Chicago area, and some Central Illinois communities say they are making preparations to help find housing and other resources for them.

Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder says he was approached about possibly housing some migrants in the Wyndham City Centre downtown. But because that hotel remains wrapped up in a zoning battle over its mix of hotel rooms and apartments, Langfelder said it would be impractical to consider that option for now.
