A candidate for Illinois secretary of state wants to limit use of automatic license plate readers so that the technology cannot target women who come to Illinois to seek an abortion.
The license plate reader technology is being used more frequently in Springfield and around the state to identify vehicles suspected of use in shootings and other crimes.
But Democrat Alexi Giannoulias wants a law put in place to prevent the data from being used to identify women coming from out of state to an Illinois abortion clinic, and to prohibit that information from being shared with other states.
