IEPA Approves EmberClear Project; Environmental Groups Object

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has given the green light to a new natural gas-fueled power plant to be built in Pawnee.

The permit allows EmberClear to build and operate the $1 billion Lincoln Land Energy Center project.

Local leaders say the plant will create jobs and help stabilize the supply of electricity locally and regionally. But environmental groups object to the permit, saying the EmberClear project will dramatically increase carbon emissions and harm air quality for area residents.
