In Sangamon County races, Sam Cahnman makes a political comeback, unseating Democratic county board member Rose Ruzic in District 18. The former Springfield alderman beat Ruzic by 31 votes.
In ballot referenda, residents of the village of Clearlake voted overwhelmingly to dissolve the village and turn its operations over to township or county government. Voters in Loami supported ending the village ban on chicken coops. And New Berlin voters gave their approval to a $23 million school building bond issue.
