Aldermen Preparing For Vote On New Ward Map; More Changes Expected

A vote could happen as early as next month on the ordinance to approve new ward boundaries for the city of Springfield.

All ten city aldermen are co-sponsors of an ordinance to adopt one of two alternatives put together by the Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission. But aldermen are expected to propose changes to the map before a final vote is taken.

The original draft would have resulted in 22,000 city households being moved into new wards. It’s not immediately clear how any proposed revisions to the map would impact those boundaries and potential changes in representation.
