Aurora Pride Parade Back On After Dispute With Police

Sunday’s Pride Parade in Aurora is back on after a week of controversy that saw the parade permit revoked and threats of a federal lawsuit.

The parade’s fate became uncertain after organizers prohibited police from taking part in the parade in uniform or in their official squad cars. Shortly afterwards, Aurora officials said they couldn’t find enough officers to work security, and revoked the parade permit.

The ACLU of Illinois threatened a lawsuit, but Aurora says it secured enough officers for security by offering triple-overtime pay, and reinstated the permit.
