Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind A Roller Coaster Unlike Any Other

This past weekend the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster opened in EPCOT at Walt Disney World and I just happened to be there. As you know by now my wife and I are big Disney fans and usually take a trip down to Walt Disney World at least once a year. Since this year we decided to become annual pass holders we decided to take a few smaller trips and this past one just so happened to coincide with the Guardians coaster opening. We didn’t plan it that way it just kind of happened.
The ride officially opened to the public on Friday May 27th but my wife and I waited until Sunday the 29th to ride it. There are currently two ways in which you can ride it. One involves paying an additional charge on top of your admission price to guarantee you ride it and the other is the randomness of being able to get in to a virtual queue. The wife and I paid the extra to ride it and were fortunate enough to also be able to ride via the virtual queue two other times.
The ride is unlike any other roller coaster I have ever experienced. While it isn’t the fastest, doesn’t go upside down, and doesn’t have any death defying drops what it does have is amazing theming and the newest in coaster car technology. The cars you ride in our omni-movers which mean they spin while you ride. They don’t spin super-fast but instead steer you towards the giant IMAX like screens where some of the ride’s story takes place. The omni-mover system also allows for the sense of floating in space as the cars lean into turns so instead of getting thrown around the car like in some coasters you glide instead.
The ride also has all the humor you would expect from a ride based on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Since music is an important part of the franchise as well it also plays a big part in the ride. There are 6 possible songs that will play while you ride. My wife and I got Tears for Fears “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” twice and Earth Wind and Fire’s “September” once. Depending on which song you get the tone of the ride can change from celebratory to more awe inspiring.
Overall I was blown away by this addition to the Disney Theme parks and can’t wait to go back and ride it again. If you want to check out a bit of our ride with September as our soundtrack you can check out our friend Nate of Paging Mr. Morrow on YouTube at the link below. Our ride is towards the end of the video. Also a shameless plug for Nate, if you are a Disney fan at all please like and subscribe to his videos. He is a great guy and gives fantastic perspective and info on Disney Parks as well as other theme parks around Orlando.
