$185K In Grants Awarded To Programs Helping Seniors

A Springfield charity has handed out $185,000 in grants to local organizations that provide services to senior citizens.

The King’s Daughters Organization Fund is set up through the Community Foundation of the Land of Lincoln. It announced grants to 22 local programs this week. The largest awards, $25,000 each, went to the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland, to help cover medical expenses not covered by Medicare… and to Habitat for Humanity to help seniors with home repair projects. Habitat also received two smaller awards.

Other grants went to The Joy of Movement, which offers dance classes for older clients with Parkinson’s Disease, and MindsEye Radio, which offers broadcasts of grocery store ads, obituaries, and other information for seniors who are visually impaired.
