An Illinois police group is condemning the early release of a prison inmate who was convicted in the 1976 murder of an Illinois State Police trooper.
71-year-old Aaron Hyche was granted release under a new state law giving prisoners with serious medical issues the right to petition for a release on health grounds. The Effingham Daily News reports that Hyche has serious memory, balance, and mobility issues, was prone to falls, and requires a wheelchair to get around.
But the Fraternal Order of Police calls it another example of how the lives and rights of public safety professionals take a back seat to the rights of criminals.
