State Grant To Support Proposed Local Housing Project For Homeless

A local project to provide more housing for the homeless is getting support from a state grant program, even though details of the project are still sketchy.
The Illinois Housing Development Authority awarded the grant for the Park Street Apartments project as part of more than $55 million in awards to create or boost permanent supportive housing projects around the state. Helping Hands of Springfield plans to build three buildings with eight units each, to help homeless individuals who are not currently being assisted by other programs. Helping Hands says the project is still in the “exploration phase,” but says if it comes to fruition, it will be geared toward seniors and veterans with disabilities.
The agency says it hopes to make more details available in late winter or early spring.
