Fire Department Report Calls Response Times ”Inadequate,” Recommends Changes

A consultant’s report on the Springfield Fire Department is now public, and includes numerous recommendations for changes to the department’s operations.
The 200-page report from the Center for Public Safety Management finds the department’s response times for fire and medical calls are inadequate and must be addressed. The report also recommends that the city consider restructuring responsibility for EMS calls, with options that could include the city operating its own ambulances or licensing private ambulance companies.
The report also says the city should consider imposing additional fees on building registration and inspection… as should seek payments from state government and other governmental bodies… to help cover fire protection costs.
