Blood Shortage Still At Critical Levels Across Central Illinois

The blood supply across Central Illinois remains critically low… and local health and hospital officials are joining the urgent call for donations.
ImpactLife says that while it seeks to maintain a five-day supply of blood in the region, most blood types are at three days or less, with O-negative, which is most in demand, is down to just one-point-five days. Hospital officials say the shortage has not forced postponement of medical procedures yet, but say that’s possible if the supply does not improve.
Officials say COVID, other illnesses, and harsh winter weather are all factors in the shortfall, and they are encouraging anyone who can to make an appointment to donate blood through the website bloodcenter.org.
