Springfield’s teachers union will push District 186 to reimburse sick time for all teachers who were forced to take time off because of COVID, including teachers who are not vaccinated against the virus.
Governor JB Pritzker announced this week that he is pursuing an agreement to provide the sick time benefit only to fully vaccinated teachers. But the Springfield Education Association says the benefit should apply to all members who have complied with state COVID requirements, including those who have opted for regular testing instead of vaccination.
The SEA says all of its members should be treated the same, regardless of vaccination status, and will seek to bargain that benefit with district administrators.
