Bailey Wants To Reinstate Death Penalty For Cop Killers

An Illinois lawmaker… and candidate for governor… wants to reinstate the death penalty in Illinois for people convicted of killing police officers.
Republican State Senator Darren Bailey was joined at an Effingham news conference Wednesday by Amber Oberheim, the widow of a Champaign police officer who was killed in the line of duty last year. Bailey says reinstating the death penalty is just one step needed to undo the damage he says was caused by last year’s policing reform bill approved by the Democratic-controlled General Assembly and signed by Governor JB Pritzker. Bailey says that law has tied the hands of police officers and emboldened criminals.
Former Governor Bruce Rauner also called for reinstating the death penalty for cop killers, but the legislation did not go anywhere.
