Sangamon County has hit a major COVID milestone… with more than 50,000 total cases of the virus locally since the start of the pandemic two years ago.
Most of those cases have come in the past year… the county was under 15,000 cases exactly one year ago. Meanwhile, another unvaccinated county resident has died of complications from COVID. The death of that woman in her 80s brings the overall county death toll in the pandemic to 339. While the seven-day average of new cases continues to drop, with 373 new infections reported Tuesday, hospitalizations are still climbing.
131 county residents are currently in the hospital with COVID.
