Sangamon County Sees Another Day Above 1,000 COVID Cases; More Local Deaths Reported

Sangamon County continues to see unprecedented levels of new COVID cases, as the local death toll from the virus keeps climbing.
The county reported 1,073 new cases Wednesday, the second-highest one-day total since the start of the pandemic, following the 1,295 cases in a single day less than a week ago. That pushes total cases in Sangamon County to nearly 42,000 since the start of the pandemic. A Sangamon County resident in his 90s, who was vaccinated and boosted, has died of the virus, bringing the county’s COVID death toll to 325.
Meanwhile, in Menard County, an unvaccinated woman in her 80s has died, the 11th COVID death of a resident in that county.
