December is underway with a violent blast of weather, as tornadoes and strong storms slammed into Central Illinois Saturday.
A reported tornado in Christian County has resulted in extensive damage in the Taylorville and Stonington areas. The Christian County Sheriff’s Office says there is extensive damage, with reports of people trapped, along with downed trees and power lines and reported gas leaks. They are asking people in the Taylorville and Stonington areas to stay off the roads, as storm debris has made travel hazardous.
There are also reports of damage in Montgomery and Macoupin counties, in communities including Litchfield, Mt. Olive, and Staunton. A St. Louis TV station reports that the classic car dealership in Staunton sustained damage from the storms that passed through that area late Saturday afternoon.
