Governor Bruce Rauner is accusing the home sharing company Airbnb of discriminatory practices.
The company has decided to stop listing residences in Israel’s disputed West Bank… citing both safety and the potential for “human suffering” in that region. Rauner is asking state officials to determine if Airbnb’s actions constitute a boycott of Israel. State law prohibits Illinois from investing in any company that engages in such a boycott.
But it’s unclear if Airbnb’s actions would meet that criteria, since it only applies to the West Bank, and not to thousands of other properties across Israel.
