Supporters of organ donation are still trying to counteract myths and misperceptions about it.
Around 300 people die each year in Illinois while waiting for a donor organ. This weekend, the National Donor Sabbath will focus on religious institutions to spread the word about the need for, and benefits of, organ donation. Secretary of State Jesse White says some people don’t donate because they think their age or health make them ineligible… or fear that they won’t receive the same quality of medical care if someone is waiting for their organs.
White says that isn’t true and is hoping to dispel those myths in order to increase the availability of life-saving organs.
