After more than 55 years, Springfield will no longer have a Kmart come February.
The Clear Lake Avenue store, which opened in 1963, will close down then, part of an ongoing process of store closings for parent company Sears Holdings. At one point, Springfield had three of the discount retail outlets, but declining sales and corporate financial problems have decimated the company’s holdings.
Sears also closed its own White Oaks Mall flagship store earlier this year. Liquidation sales at the Clear Lake Kmart are scheduled to begin next week.
