The 99th Illinois House District will stay in Republican hands, as former restaurant owner Mike Murphy wins the open seat over Democratic challenger Marc Bell. Murphy will replace Sara Wojcicki Jimenez, who decided not to seek re-election.
Murphy will come into the House in the minority, as Democratic House Speaker Mike Madigan regains a supermajority in Tuesday’s vote. But Murphy says he is willing to reach across the aisle and work with anyone to get things done.
There were no major surprises in the other contested local legislative races, as incumbent Sen. Andy Manar and Reps. Sue Scherer and Avery Bourne all coasted to easy wins in their respective races.
