Gov. Bruce Rauner Concedes, Urges Both Parties To Work Together On Reforms

Gov. Bruce Rauner has acknowledged his defeat in his re-election bid, calling victor J.B. Pritzker to concede and thanking his supporters. In his remarks in Chicago, Rauner urged Democrats and Republicans to work together on the reforms he unsuccessfully sought during his single term in office, including pension reform, term limits, and changes in the redistricting process.
In the speech, Rauner sounded familiar themes from his contentious campaign against Pritzker, denouncing the “corruption” of “machine politicians” and saying Illinoisans will not tolerate the “status quo.” But he also wished Pritzker well and said he hopes the governor-elect will serve the state ably.
