The top name on the new list of groundbreaking Illinois women might come as a bit of a surprise.
Lydia Moss Bradley was definitely a groundbreaker in the 19th Century… becoming the first woman to serve on the board of a national bank and the first woman to get a prenuptial agreement in America. She also founded Bradley University in Peoria. Bradley beat out a number of better-known names, including Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, in the balloting at IllinoisTop200.com.
