An investigation is underway into the death of an inmate in the Macon County Jail.
55-year-old James Carr died last week after apparently choking on food in his cell. He was being held on a bank robbery charge. He was found in distress in his cell in late September.
Carr was taken to the hospital, where it was found that he had aspirated a large amount of peanut butter into his airway. He was placed on life support and died several days later.
NewsChannel 20 reports that officials believe the death was an accident.
