Familiar attacks and angry exchanges dominated the latest debate between the major party candidates for governor.
Republican incumbent Bruce Rauner and Democratic challenger J.B. Pritzker went after each other on issues from Pritzker’s graduated income tax plan and the controversial property tax breaks he received to Rauner’s handling of the Legionnaire’s Disease outbreak at the Quincy veterans home and his role in the long state budget impasse. Pritzker repeatedly referred to Rauner as a failed governor… and Rauner attacked Pritzker as a, quote, “trust fund baby” who hasn’t worked an honest day in his life.
The third party candidates, Sam McCann and Kash Jackson, were not invited to participate, because neither has cracked the ten-percent threshold in major statewide polls.
