Democratic nominee for governor J.B. Pritzker has new toilet trouble.
A report from the Cook County Inspector General finds Pritzker took part in what it calls a “scheme to defraud” by tearing out the toilets from his Chicago Gold Coast mansion, making it uninhabitable and giving Pritzker a $330,000 break on his property taxes. Pritzker’s tax break has come under attack from Governor Bruce Rauner for weeks, but the new report claims the Pritzker family made false representations in affidavits seeking the reassessment and lower tax bill.
The IG report says the county should try to reclaim the money… but Pritzker insists he followed the law on what he calls a “routine” appeals process. However, the Pritzker camp now says the candidate is repaying the money he received as a property tax break.
