A cartoonist whose work has been featured in Springfield publications for years says he’s getting death threats after a controversial cartoon about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Chris Britt’s cartoon was based on Kavanaugh’s testimony that his young daughter prays for the woman who first accused Kavanaugh of assaulting her. Britt’s cartoon depicts the girl saying a prayer asking God to forgive her, quote, “angry, lying alcoholic father.”
Appearing live on WMAY’s Jim Leach Show, Britt said federal agents are investigating the threats he’s received. But he also makes no apologies for the cartoon, saying Kavanaugh introduced his daughter into the conversation, making it fair game for commentary. Britt formerly worked for the State Journal-Register and more recently has appeared in the Illinois Times, although the Times has not printed this particular cartoon.
