The battle is continuing over “step” pay increases for state workers.
Those pay hikes have been on hold while contract talks between the state and AFSCME have bogged down for years. The Rauner administration had been ordered to restore state workers to the spot they would be on the “step” schedule by October 1st.
But AFSCME says the administration is asking for another six to eight weeks to calculate those increases… and is also continuing to insist that it is not required to pay the increases beyond January of 2016, when the talks broke down. The union says it is reviewing the governor’s latest filing and will determine its next moves.
