The candidates for the contested area races for the Illinois House are generally divided along party lines on many major issues, but not everything.
For example, both 96th District incumbent Democrat Sue Scherer and her GOP opponent Herman Senor oppose most gaming expansion and the legalization of marijuana for recreational use.
In a candidates forum heard live Monday night on WMAY, the Democrats in the 95th, 96th and 99th Districts did not commit to supporting House Speaker Mike Madigan for another term, saying they would decide after they see who’s running. That led to a rebuke from Republican incumbent Avery Bourne, who said the Democrats are not fooling anyone and should publicly state their intentions on Madigan.
