Springfield keeps losing jobs but its unemployment rate keeps dropping, too.
The total number of jobs in the Springfield area fell by 400 from August of 2017 to August of 2018. It’s one of only three Illinois metro areas to lose jobs from year to year. But despite that, the unemployment rate dipped from four-point-three-percent a year ago to four-point-two percent last month.
Unemployment was down in every metro area except Champaign, where it held steady.
