A group of state lawmakers and various advocacy groups are blasting Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White for how his office is implementing automatic voter registration.
AVR was signed by Gov. Bruce Rauner last year. It calls for voters to be registered or to have their info updated every time they interact with a state agency.
The group says White’s office has “failed miserably” in setting up the systems to make it happen.
White’s office says AVR is running and is increasing voter registration numbers… but says he is also taking steps to ensure that the integrity of voting systems is preserved.
