The candidates for Sangamon County sheriff both say they will make some modifications in county jail operations… but the quality of meals there won’t be among them.
Republican Jack Campbell and Democrat Odie Carpenter, Jr. were asked about the jail during a candidate forum in Springfield. Both say they would reinstate some in-person visitation, a year after the county moved to video-only visitation for jail inmates. But both also say if jail food isn’t that good… too bad. Campbell says jail isn’t supposed to be fun… and Carpenter says as long as the food keeps inmates alive, that’s all that’s required.
