Remember that penny drive by Sangamon County schoolchildren last spring? The results of that effort are now on display in Springfield. Organizers of the Illinois Proud Penny Drive have unveiled a display featuring the Sangamon County court record from the 1830s, documenting that Abraham Lincoln was a man of good moral character… a requirement for Lincoln to receive his law license.
Schoolkids raised one-point-eight-million pennies… $18,000… to purchase the document and return it to Springfield. It will be on display this month at the Lincoln Presidential Library… and then will move to the presidential museum to be on display for the rest of this year.
