It’s going to get easier for some people to get the money that belongs to them… but that is currently being held by the state. A new state law will allow Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs to mail out checks to the rightful owners of cash that has wound up in the state’s possession… like dormant bank accounts or undeliverable refund checks.
Previously, those owners would have had to go online, download and mail in forms to get their money. The program is limited to amounts up to $2,000 and covers only cash, not property. If you qualify, you should be getting notification letters in the next several weeks.
