Springfield police say it appears that choppy waters on Lake Springfield led to the drowning deaths of two men on a Labor Day weekend outing.
The investigation indicates that 51-year-old Peter Sidener had jumped into the water while on a boat with a group of friends Sunday and did not resurface. Then another man on the boat, 60-year-old Michael Daugherty, jumped in to try to help him and was also overpowered by the waves. The bodies of both men were later recovered. The coroner’s office says the deaths were accidental and there is no indication of foul play.
