A Springfield youth group is competing for a hefty grant to restore a piece of local history… and needs your help. Teens Preserving Our History is a group, sponsored by the local NAACP chapter, that is trying to raise money to repair the building that housed the Lincoln Colored Home, the first orphanage in the city that served the needs of black children.
The group is among 200 competing for grants through the State Farm Neighborhood Assist program. The top 40 vote-getting projects will receive $25,000 grants… but the local effort is currently at Number 77. Voting runs through Friday and you can vote up to ten times per day.
