He’s facing a backlash because of allegations of sexual harassment within his own political organization. Now Illinois Democratic Party chairman Mike Madigan is making another public effort to show that he supports greater legal protection for women.
Madigan has issued a statement calling on Congress to approval a renewal of the federal Violence Against Women Act.
The law provides federal grants and support for organizations dealing with issues like domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. But it’s set to expire September 30th . Madigan says it would be a “moral travesty” to allow the law to lapse.
