The number of cases of a vicious stomach bug continues to grow around Illinois and locally.
Sangamon County now has five confirmed cases of food-borne illness linked to the cyclospora parasite. Locally, all five of those individuals reported eating salads from McDonald’s in mid-to-late June… the chain has now pulled salads from its menu while it tries to figure out the source of the outbreak.
Statewide, there have been more than 420 confirmed cases, at least one-third with a confirmed link to McDonald’s salads. Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, cramps and other problems. It can be treated with antibiotics.
