A state lawmaker has been named the interim executive director of the Democratic Party of Illinois. Representative Christian Mitchell becomes the first African-American to assume that position with the state party.
He is expected to serve through the November elections, and then a search will get underway for a permanent director.
Mitchell replaces Tim Mapes, a longtime deputy of party chairman Mike Madigan. Mapes resigned earlier this year after allegations that he contributed to an atmosphere of sexual harassment in Madigan’s government and political operations
