It’s National Alcohol Awareness Month, and new numbers show teen alcohol use appears to be on the decline in Illinois. The Illinois Youth Survey finds alcohol is still the most commonly used drug among teens.
23-percent of 8th graders reported using it in 2016, down from 27-percent two years earlier.
In 10th grade, 42-percent say they had used alcohol, down from 47-percent.
And 58-percent of 12th graders reported drinking booze, down from 63-percent in 2014. Prevention groups say teens are less likely to drink when parents set clear rules and express disapproval of underage drinking.
