The Illinois Supreme Court is accepting applications to fill the local court vacancy created by the death of Justice John Schmidt late last year.
Schmidt had just started an appointment to the Illinois Appellate Court when he died suddenly on December 19th , but was still an At Large Circuit Judge for the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which includes Sangamon County.
Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Illinois and will undergo an evaluation and screening process. The appointment would last until just after the November 2020 general election.
Application deadline is March 15th , and you can learn more at illinoiscourts.gov
