Around 135 Illinois National Guardsmen are on their way to Kuwait to assist in the War on Terror.
The 3637th Support Maintenance Company, based in Springfield, will deploy for 10 months, providing maintenance and support for 40 military units that are stationed in that region. Around 800 people were on hand Sunday at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport to see them off… at the start of the largest Illinois Army National Guard deployment in three years.
Meanwhile, a team from the Illinois Air National Guard is helping with rescue and recovery efforts in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico. The 126th Communications Flight will provide voice, radio, data and video capabilities on the island, where most communications have been knocked out by Hurricane Maria.
The unit also had to bring its own food, water, tents, and cots… along with a generator and air conditioner to keep its equipment cool enough to operate.
